SOUTH ATLANTIC SHRINE ASSOCIATION

BUSINESS MEETING MINUTES

Thursday, September 20, 2012
Crown Reef Hotel Convention Center
Myrtle Beach, SC
 

The South Atlantic Shrine Association met on this date at 1:00 pm, Ill Sir Joe Scott, PP, (Hejaz) President, called the meeting to order. The colors were posted and the Shrine pledge of allegiance was given. The Nation Anthem was sung by Past Present Bob Gray, PP, (Omar).

 
The invocation was given by Imperial Chaplain John Stanley, PP, (Oasis)
 

Mayor Pro Tem W. Wayne Gray was introduced and welcomed the South Atlantic Shrine Association to Myrtle Beach. Omar Potentate Kenny G. Craven welcomed SASA to his jurisdiction. Hejaz Potentate J. Ron Kennedy, potentate of the president’s Temple, brought greetings to the SASA representatives.

 

Noble Jim Eller, chairman of the board, of the Greenville Shriners Hospitals for Children was introduced and brought greetings from the hospitals after which he introduced Administrator Randy Romberger who brought the representatives up to date on the hospital noting a growth in patients over the previous year. Also he noted a screening clinic to be held on Saturday during the SASA Festival.

 

President Scott introduced those Imperial Officers present, they were:

 

Deputy Imperial Potenate John A Cinotto (Murat)

Imperial Chief Rabban Dale W. Stauss (Kem)

Imperial Assistant Rabban Jerry G. Gantt (Arabia)

Imperial Chaplain John Stanley (Oasis)

The Annual Memorial Service for those Nobles who passed away during the past year was conducted by Imperial Chaplain John Stanley. A candle was lit by the member Potentates honoring the Nobles of each Temple.

 

Following the Memorial Service a ten minute recess was called by President Scott to allow visitors to leave prior to the business session.

 
On recall Noble Calvin Gaddy, Secretary/Treasurer (Oasis) called the roll of the representatives, a corium was established and the business meeting began.
 
The first order of business introduced a resolution (copy attached) authorizing the 2013 Director General Tom Price, PP, (Oasis) to apply for Atax funds from the City of Myrtle Beach.
 
A motion was made to authorize this, duly seconded and passed.
 

Secretary/Treasurer Calvin Gaddy gave the treasurer report noting that the year began October 1, 2011 with $33,194.87 in checking and $55,504.74 in the money market account for a total of $88,699.61. During the year checks were written in the amount of $15,104.32 and deposits made in the amount of $16,107.73. As of the August 29, 2012 the checking account had $36,310.27 and the money market account had $55,607.55 for a total of $91,917.82, which included interested received. A motion was made to approve the report duly seconded and carried.

 

President Scott called on Past Potentate Bill Harward (Oasis) chairman of the Finance & Audit Committee for his report. Harward reported that he had examined the books for the spring meeting and had found all in order. A motion was made to accept his report, duly seconded and carried.

 
Secretary/Treasurer Gaddy reported for the Time & Place Committee on future meetings.

A motion was made to accept the Time & Place Committee report, duly seconded and carried.
 
Past President Ray Fields, PP, (Amran) Chairman of the Nominating Committee reported that they recommend that the following be nominated for the ensuing year:
 

For President                     Past Potentate Doyle Simmons (Oasis)

For 1st Vice President     Past Potentate Donald Ratliff (Kazim)

For 2nd Vice President    Past Potentate Edward Everhart (Kerbela)

For 3rd Vice President     Past Potentate Mike Matthews (Rizpah)

For 4th Vice President     Assistant Rabban Steve Tucker (Jamil)

For Sec./Trea.                    Noble Calvin Gaddy (Oasis)

The floor was opened for other nominations, a motion was made that the nominations be closed and that the above be elected by acclamation, and the motion was duly seconded and carried.

 

Ill. Sir Fields reported that it was Sudan’s turn to nominate the 5th Vice President and at stated meeting by ballot the members they had recommended Potentate Steve Norris to the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee recommends Potentate Norris for 5th Vice President. A motion was made, duly seconded and carried that nominations be closed and that Potentate Norris be elected by acclamation.

 

Secretary/Treasurer Gaddy presented the following budgets: Operating Budget for 2012-2013, 2013 Spring Meeting Budget and the 2013 Fall Budget. A motion was made, duly seconded and carried to set the three budgets for the ensuing year.

 

Imperial Outer Guard candidates Ill. Sir Joseph S. Savaglio, PP (Ismet) and Ill. Sir H. Mike Cook Potentate (Oasis) spoke on behalf of their candidacy.

 

Imperial Assistant Rabban Jerry Gantt spoke to the representatives followed by Imperial Chief Rabban Dale Stauss and Deputy Imperial Potentate John Cinatto.

 

On Friday the Units held their completion and banquets to install officers for the ensuing year. The annual parade began at 9:00 am on Saturday morning and was enjoy by the Shriners in attendance and the general public.

 

The weekend was closed with the President’s banquet with the SASA officers for the ensuing year being installed by Imperial Potentate Alan W. Madsen (Oasis) with Imperial Chaplain John Stanley (Oasis) acting as installing Marshal. The meeting was adjourned with the closing of the President’s banquet.
